Parliament questioned the Tunisian Minister of Interior after the campaign launched by the police on Monday, sparking protests by public anger, and increased pressure on the government led by Islamists.

Police used tear gas and batons to disperse protesters who were throwing stones and broke into the Avenue Habib Bourguiba, last Monday in defiance of a ban on demonstrations in the street, which was the center of the protests that toppled former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, who toppled by a popular uprising last year.

This crisis represents one of the biggest challenges faced by the government - led by the Islamic Renaissance Movement allied with the moderate secular parties - during its nearly four months.
