Canada condemned the two bombings in Damascus car bomb attacks Thursday that killed at least 55 people and injured 372 others, calling on the Syrian regime and the opposition to respect the cease-fire.
He said Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird, in commenting on the worst attack, witnessed by Syria since the protests began 14 months ago that "the parties should immediately respect a cease-fire overseen by the United Nations, which called for by Canada and dozens of other countries."
The Minister expressed regret at the failure to implement a plan of the Special Envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab Syria, Kofi Annan, appealed to the international community to "redouble its efforts" to implement this plan and formulate a "diplomatic solutions other," and asserting that "Canada stands in solidarity with the Syrian people and support the demands."
