Driven more than 181 thousand people from the fighting between government forces and the Taliban or al Qaeda-linked militants in northwest Pakistan, according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees of the United Nations on Friday.
A statement from the Office of the Commission that "the number of people displaced because of the security operation launched by the government in northwest Pakistan has exceeded 181 thousand people," pointing out that "the vast majority of displaced people registered (85%) chose not to live in the Jalozai camp, and preferred to stay with their friends and relatives or in rented houses. "
The agency noted that it has distributed more than 37 thousand packets of humanitarian needs, also provided by other agencies of the United Nations, including the Children's Fund (UNICEF) and WHO assistance.
The fighting began on Jan. 20, when government forces attacked militants in the Khyber region. And full of the seven tribal areas of Pakistan bordering Afghanistan, Pakistani militants as they are strongholds of Taliban and Al Qaeda.
