Alaeddin Boroujerdi said, Chairman of the Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy in the Iranian parliament, the Syrian government is willing in principle to meet with the opposition under the auspices of the Iranian.
Boroujerdi a visit to a number of Syrian officials in Damascus, including President Bashar al-Assad, Boroujerdi said: "Syrian authorities initially welcomed dialogue with the opposition."
He added that the dialogue will be conducted only after the opposition agrees and states that provide them with weapons on a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
"The acceptance of the Syrian government dialogue is a positive step, if accepted by the armed opposition and the states that support arms will hold dialogue."
He pointed out that Iran is ready to host the talks and stressed the importance of a political solution to the ongoing conflict in 17 months between the government and the armed opposition.
He explained: "We are ready to provide the ground for dialogue between the Syrian government and the opposition, we believe that a political solution is the only way to resolve this crisis."
