17 years in prison for the U.S. acknowledged that "Al Qaeda" is not a terrorist organization

Was sentenced to seventeen and a half years on Thursday, a man from the state of Massachusetts, U.S. charges of conspiring with the assistance of al Qaeda, after giving a speech in which he announced an enthusiastic love for Islam, saying "This is not terrorism, it is self-defense."

The court found Tarek Mehanna, 29, an American who grew up in a suburb of Boston, rich, guilty in December to go to Yemen to seek terrorist training camp in the "intention" to go to Iraq to fight U.S. troops there.

Prosecutors said that when that plan failed, he returned to the United States professions, and began the translation of materials over the Internet promoting armed jihad.
