Said a senior official the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Day, Tuesday, said that about 12 Russian warship accumulate in the Mediterranean and the Gulf of Aden as part of a strategic training and widespread.
The official added, which did not mention his name, that warships will conduct air defense exercises and coping with warships and submarines and will visit some foreign ports, including the Syrian port of Tartus.
The official declined to specify whether the large landing ships carrying military equipment to Syria, following "The main objective behind sending ships to the Mediterranean Sea is accomplishing the tasks set by the leadership of the Navy and exercises."
Deputy Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov denied on Monday media reports that there commando units and military equipment sent to Syria on the back of some warships.
